Revolutionizing the Food Franchise Industry: Qatar International Food Festival as a Modern Showcase

Since the inception of franchising in the 1940s, franchise shows and fairs have traditionally followed a similar format for nearly eight decades. However, a groundbreaking approach has redefined this concept, transforming it into a vibrant public event: the Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF).

Held from February 7th to 17th, the festival saw a significant shift in how franchises are presented and perceived, moving away from the conventional B2B model to an immersive consumer experience.

Unlike traditional franchise fairs, which are characterized by a corporate atmosphere with booths, promoters, and tasting tables in a confined space, the QIFF directly targeted the end consumer.

This modern food franchise showcase emphasized the sensory experience—allowing attendees to see, smell, taste, hear, and touch—thus engaging them in a more meaningful way.

The festival became a stage for direct feedback, where the speed of service, menu appeal, and overall consumer indulgence determined the success of participating franchises.

The transformation into a consumer-centric event was met with enthusiasm and participation, as evidenced by the long queues for popular stands like Grind and Abu Tarik Koshary, known for their coffee and unique dish offerings, respectively. Similarly, the lines for Crosstown's sourdough delicacies and Bachir's generations-old sweet ice cream illustrated the festival's ability to captivate and satisfy diverse tastes.

The modern era, with its evolving consumer expectations, demands more than just food; it calls for an experience. The QIFF delivered just that, creating an environment where family entertainment and atmospheric enjoyment were paramount. This not only allowed the festival to exceed expectations but also provided investors and operators with valuable insights into consumer behavior and preferences.

And how were the franchises received at the event?

  • Bachir Ice Cream Middle East emerged as a standout favorite, with their signature Ashta flavor drawing crowds of all ages. Alexandre Bachir's commitment to exemplary customer service was a highlight, ensuring a memorable experience for every visitor.

  • The festival marked a significant milestone by introducing international brands to Qatar, thanks to the collaborative efforts of HEKMA Consulting W.L.L and Gulf Franchise Group. The diverse lineup, including Bachir Ice Cream Middle East, Grind, Crosstown, and many others, contributed to the festival's unparalleled success, making it a landmark event in the QIFF's history.

  • The festival's execution was a testament to teamwork and perseverance, with the rapid opening of 13 international brands in less than three days. The dedication of individuals like Hassan Jawad, who went above and beyond in his support and leadership, was crucial in overcoming the challenges faced during the festival.

The Qatar International Food Festival has indeed set a new standard for how food franchises are showcased, offering a glimpse into the future of the industry where consumer engagement and experience take center stage.
